The Permeable Revolution:
VCAP Rebate Mastery
In Richmond, stormwater runoff is more than an environmental issue—it's a financial one. The Virginia Conservation Assistance Program (VCAP) offers significant rebates for homeowners who replace impervious surfaces (like old cracked asphalt) with permeable paver systems. Understanding how these systems interact with local clay soil is critical for VCAP success.
We are Richmond's leading VCAP contractor. We handle the entire technical package:
- Infiltration Testing: Measuring how fast your soil can absorb water.
- Storage Calculations: Designing the aggregate reservoir to hold a 10-year storm event.
- Submission & Certification: Managing the paperwork with the Soil & Water Conservation District.
"A permeable driveway isn't just an entrance; it's a private utility. You are essentially building a stormwater management facility that looks like a luxury driveway."
H-20 Commercial Grading
A standard driveway supports a sedan. Our driveways support a delivery truck without a millimeter of deflection. We achieve this through Biaxial Geogrid integration—a high-tensile mesh that spreads the vertical load of a vehicle horizontally across the entire aggregate base.
Civil-Grade Subgrade Protocol
A driveway is only as strong as its sub-base. In Richmond, this means excavating deep enough to remove all organics and expansive clay soil. We then install a multi-layered aggregate foundation:
- Biaxial Geogrid: A high-tensile mesh that locks the base aggregate together, preventing lateral movement and rutting under heavy truck loads.
- Non-Woven Geotextile: A separation fabric that ensures your clean gravel base doesn't migrate into the clay, which is the primary cause of driveway "sinking."
- D-2 Filter Aggregate: A specific grading of stone that allows maximum water flow while maintaining 98% proctor compaction density.
The 90-Degree Herringbone Rule
Torque is the enemy of a driveway. When a vehicle turns its wheels or accelerates, it applies rotational force to the pavers. Only a 90-Degree Herringbone pattern creates the necessary interlocking geometry to resist these forces perfectly. We refuse to install running bond patterns on driveways because we know they will fail.
